Question Of The Day: How Would You Rather Your Season End?

Nothing has more of an alone feeling than losing the AFC/NFC Championship for your team. I wonder if after the night game, Billy Cundiff called up Kyle Williams to meet up and commit group suicide. So if you HAD to be on one of these teams, which one would it be?  The Ravens who missed a chip shot field goal to send the Patriots to the Super Bowl or the 49ers who muffed a punt and then fumbled to send the Giants to the Super Bowl? Personally, I have to go with the Ravens here simply on the fact that the field goal was not for the win but only to send the game to OT. Plus Cundiff only fucked up once and since the AFC is such a joke, he’ll probably be back in the same game next year. Kyle Williams screwed up twice and the 49ers will probably not make it to the finals for another decade. I was debating on also throwing ‘member of Harbaugh family’ in there but I felt like it isn’t even close to how these stooges feel.

We’re Goin’, Goin’ Back, Back To Cali, Cali!

I have goddamn goosebumps right now and I’m so jacked up that I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself until game time! The Giants are storming into one of the most flaming/hippie cities in the country so I’ll say figuratively they will be bending the 49ers over and having their way with them on Sunday. Revenge was sweet last week but it was only half of what the they needed to get out of their system. The 49ers get 1 miracle catch every 15 years and unfortunately for them, they used theirs last week. I 100% expect Vernon Davis to walk off the field crying in back to back weeks but not because he made the game winning catch this time. Because the Giants embarrassed his team at home to go to the Super Bowl. All in? I’m fuckin’ balls deep! Let’s go BigBlue!

Big Blue Weekend Kicks Off With ‘I Am A Champion’

Dallas. Check. Atlanta. Check. Next stop…15-1 Green Bay. All corny headline titles aside, I cannot wait until Justin Tuck separates Aaron Rodgers’ shoulders. Everyone keeps saying ‘I wonder what defense will show up’ or ‘I wonder what Eli will show up.’ How about the defense that has showed up for the past 2 weeks just embarrassing the opponents offense or the Eli that is on pace for another Super Bowl MVP truck? What’s even better is when Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz are discount double checking and salsa dancing all over the endzone. Also, will someone please shut BJ Raji the hell up? Ya didn’t do shit all year and now you’re gonna open your mouth? You’re Jersey, you ski in your jeans. Sunday can’t come soon enough and I expect every Giants fan to be sporting their blue this weekend!

Side Note: Fuck Tim Tebow and the halo he rides in on. I hate the Patriots but this ESPN coverage NEEDS TO BE STOPPED before my head explodes! Go Pats.

Green Bay Must Be Shitting Themselves Right Now

The defense pitched a shutout, two huge 4th down stops, Hakeem Nicks dirty birding all over the place, Eli showing why he’s a top QB in the NFL, Jacobs running people over like a MAC truck. I mean if you’re the Packers you have to be scared as all fuck right now, right? The Giants already showed that they can keep up with the Pack and go into Green Bay peaking on all cylinders. I hope Tom Coughlin’s face doesn’t freeze off again cause it’s gonna be a cold one! On to Wisconsin!

By the way, my cousin gave up his ticket to the game and this was him from 1:00 to 4:00 on playoff Sunday. One late Saturday night and the kid can’t hang. Unbelievable.

NY Jets Should Have An Interesting Offseason

ESPN:

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — A day after watching his dysfunctional team implode, and after meeting individually with several players Monday, Rex Ryan offered a stunning mea culpa for someone who prides himself on being a player’s coach. “Normally, I’m a guy that really has the pulse of this team, and I don’t think I had the pulse of the team the way I’ve done in the past,” Ryan said at a news conference. “When I met with players, I think that became clear to me.”  Only a few hours earlier, the New York Jets’ coach became so emotional in a team meeting that he cried while addressing the importance of unity, according to players. It was a surreal day for the Jets, who cleaned out their lockers and admitted, almost to a man, their Super Bowl aspirations were undermined by poor team chemistry. The lowpoint occurred Sunday in Miami, where Santonio Holmes was benched for the final two minutes after jawing with teammates who felt he had quit. Several players, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said Holmes poisoned the locker room throughout the season. Ryan backed offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer’s decision to bench Holmes, but he acknowledged there was ongoing turmoil and he vowed to restore harmony to the locker room. Ryan admitted he made a “huge mistake” by naming six captains before the season — Holmes was one of them — because he believes it detracted from the team concept. He said there will be no captains in the future. “It’s not a reflection of anybody in particular, but we’re not going to have those anymore,” said Ryan, who was criticized for the decision to give a ‘C’ to Holmes. Ryan said he expects Holmes to return in 2012. He signed a five-year, $45 million contract before the season. The Jets (8-8) fell well short of their expectations, missing the playoffs for the first time in three years. There was a lack of harmony on offense, and it came to surface in October when Holmes called out the offensive line, sparking a war of words with guard Brandon Moore. Just last week, Holmes clashed with quarterback Mark Sanchez in a meeting room, team sources told ESPNNewYork.com. It got really ugly in Miami, when Holmes had to be restrained from going after tackle Wayne Hunter in the huddle. “For whatever reason, I don’t think we were as close as a football team as we were the first two years, and now we’re sitting on the outside looking in,” said Ryan, who is 28-20 in three seasons. “We’re watching the other teams in playoff games, and we think we should be in. I think that’s painful. Beyond belief, that’s painful.” That pain poured out of Ryan in the team meeting. He didn’t mention Holmes by name, according to players, but he made it clear he was talking about the mercurial wide receiver when he discussed the importance of leadership and supporting teammates and playing through injuries. “He started off calm … and he got really emotional, and kind of put his heart out there, pleading with us, saying, ‘We have to do a better job, we have to be a team if we’re going to win,'” guard Matt Slauson said. “Yeah, he was crying, because he loves us,” Slauson added. “He knows what we’re capable of, and we didn’t even come close to our goals and that was sad because we have the players in this room to be an amazing team. We weren’t even close. He was really disappointed with that.” Ryan confirmed that he choked up in the meeting. “I’m Irish, so what do you want?” he said. “It’s hurtful, and I’m extremely prideful. I want to be the best. I want to win. Sometimes it comes out like that.” But it wasn’t just a Kleenex moment; Ryan also lashed into the team. “It was a little bit harsher than most end-of-the-year meetings,” Moore said. “Everything was spot on. Everybody is frustrated and disappointed.” Ryan wouldn’’t say which players he met with, and he wouldn’’t say if he met with Holmes. General manager Mike Tannenbaum, who appeared with Ryan at the news conference — a likely show of unity — said he met with more than a dozen players Monday in attempt to uncover answers. “Clearly, there are a lot of things we all could’ve done better,” said Tannenbaum, also refusing to say if he met with Holmes. Holmes refused to speak with reporters. He walked to his locker, grabbed a cardboard box and exited quickly, escorted by a PR official while at least 30 reporters followed in their wake. One player watched the scene unfold, shook his head and said, “What a joke.” Several players dodged reporters. Some appeared shaken as they entered the locker room. Darrelle Revis, one of the most media-friendly players on team, bolted immediately. Bart Scott gave an obscene gesture to a photographer and snapped, “Get that f——- thing out of my face.” The players that stuck around spoke openly about the internal strife that fractured the locker room. “We talked all year how talented we were,” Jim Leonhard said. “It’s not talent. It’s obviously all the intangibles and things like that. I’m not going to point out one guy; it was a lot of different issues. Obviously, things need to change — and will.” The Jets mortgaged character for talent, jettisoning well-respected veterans such as Jerricho Cotchery and Damien Woody and bringing in Derrick Mason (since traded) and Plaxico Burress to join Holmes in the receiving corps. Burress didn’t cause any friction, according to team sources, but they suspect it was because he was on a one-year contract. “There are a lot of reasons why we didn’t have the season we wanted, and chemistry can go on the list for however many numbers go down the page,” Moore said. Now the healing process begins. “We’ve got to find a way — and I will find a way — of pulling this team together,” Ryan said. “That’s something I always think is a strength of mine.” Not this season.

What do Rex Ryan, Wade Phillips, and Terry Francona all have in common? They all were recent coaches who were loved by their players and had very talented teams. They also had zero control over their teams and let their players do and say whatever they want. Being a “players coach” is a trend in sports that is an immediate red flag if you ask me. There is a certain line players cannot cross and they have to know where it starts.

In any market, but especially New York, fans have a very short fuse and tolerance for losing games. Example: Tom Coughlin has been playing every game for the last couple of years as if his career depends on it and guess what? Unfortunately it does. But Coughlin is respected by his players and widely known for running a tight ship, just how an NFL coach should be. So when is everyone going to stop drinking the Rex Ryan Kool-Aid and demand change? Not only has he lost control of his team but now he’s crying in front of them? In this case, there’s a fine line between passion and pathetic and whatever respect his players still had, is definitely gone now.

Everyone knows there’s no crying in football.

Bring On Atlanta!

Is anyone hotter than Victor Cruz right now? I mean the guy only led the NFL in receiving yards this year and didn’t even play a full season! Even NBC had salsa music cued and ready to go when he scored his touchdown. Yes, the Giants fell asleep for a quarter and a half last night but thankfully it didn’t affect the outcome of the game. The defense stepped up big, Eli looked like a top 5 quarterback, and we have home field advantage for the first round of the playoffs. Tony Romo should probably consider retirement and Jason Garrett should be fired. I was at the game last night sitting directly under Jerry Jones’ box and it was the greatest feeling in the world to wave goodbye when the clock hit 0:00. 2012 couldn’t have started any better and bring on the Atlanta Fairies!

Rex Ryan Tells Pats Fan To ‘Shut The F*** Up’

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP)—The NFL is looking into an Internet video that appears to show New York Jets coach Rex Ryan using an obscenity while angrily responding to a fan after the team’s 37-16 loss to the New England Patriots. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello says Monday that the league is aware of the 48-second video, which shows the Jets walking off the field Sunday night. When Ryan appears, someone is heard yelling, “Hey, Rex, Belichick is better than you,” referring to Patriots coach Bill Belichick. Ryan looks up and tells the fan to “shut up” while also using an obscenity. Ryan was fined $50,000 by the Jets in 2010 after he was caught on a cellphone camera giving the middle finger to a fan during a mixed martial arts event in Florida.

Welp, Rex will be digging deep into his pockets for this one. I understand emotions were running high after that nail biter in New England but in today’s world you HAVE to know that there is a 99% chance of someone recording you when walking off the field. Rex, you gave them exactly what they wanted which was a frustrated and emotional reaction that they can now post all over the internet and…here we are. To be honest I would be just as mad though. You play the worst defense in the league and get Sandusky’d by them (too soon?). Back to the drawing board and like I’ve said since last year, you’re not winning a Super Bowl with Sanchez taking snaps. Is it too late to make a run for Andrew Luck? Keep it classy Jets fans.

Giants/Jets Outlook: Week 10

Ohhhhhhh boy! Giants on the west coast and 3.5 point underdogs!!! Love it. Nicks might be back, Bradshaw is out and Eli is still blowing the smoke off his trigger finger. Giants walk into San Fran like the bosses they were last week in New England and look to improve on their lead in the the NFC East. Philly sucks, Dallas is killing themselves, and who is that other team…? Oh yea, Washington who is irrelevant. As long as the Giants are underdogs I feel comfortable with a 3.5 point spread. It’s when they are favored that I get nervous. Giants +3.5 in the over at 42.5

Week 10
Let’s get real, this won’t be even close to as exciting as Giants/Patriots but it’s still a division rivalry so it’s a big game. This is also to decide first place in the AFC East since Buffalo is proving they are the same team they’ve always been in the past years and Miami is dropping games for a draft pick. Rex Ryan has already come out and asked the fans for help and that could actually be a huge factor in this Sunday night nationally televised showdown. Tom Brady is trying to stop a 2 game losing streak for the Pats and keep his team in the lead of the AFC East. The Patriots haven’t lost 3 straight games since 2002 and I have a feeling the losing streak will continue due to a Patriots defense that is in complete disarray. The Jets could be their own worst enemy if they walk into this game thinking it’s going to be easy. This game is the Patriots offense against the Jets defense and after last week, I think we saw that Brady is losing his touch. Unless he can use his tight ends every other down, I don’t see the Pats being able to pull this one off. The other big question is whether or not the Jets offense can mount points on this sorrowful defense. We’ll see Sunday night but I’m running with the Jets-2 and the over at 47.5

NBC Week 10

Giants/Jets Outlook: Week 9

Let’s start with the Jets. Big division game this week IN Buffalo. Hopefully the Jets are coming off a well rested BYE week because they will face a surprising Bills team who have taken one lose all season. I like that the Jets are the underdogs here because it should be motivation for them to play harder and with Plaxico coming off that 3 TD performance, I feel like they can win this game outright. Whenever I see a 2 point spread I always take the money line because let’s be honest, if the Bills win it’s going to be by more than 2 points. I’m taking Jets money line all day and the UNDER at 44.

Week 9
Giants have the highly anticipated 4:15pm game this week in Foxboro. As a Giants fan I’m not looking forward to this game, especially with a 9 point spread but the Giants have surprised me before and hopefully will do it again this week. With Bradshaw out, I don’t have a lot of faith in Jacobs so I expect Eli to be going through the air all day. Especially on a New England secondary that plays half-ass and gives up close to the most points in the league. 9 points are a lot and this game should be a shootout all day. I’m taking Giants +9 and get this…the OVER at 51

Giants Outlook: Week 8

Coming off a BYE week, we’re getting most of our starters back, and playing the Miami Dolphins. I mean jesus christ if the Giants don’t win by 50 points I’ll consider it a moral victory for the Dolphins. The defense might even put up more points than the offense this week! The only question I have is who plays quarterback for the Dolphins when Matt Moore and JP Losman are knocked out of the game? There is no third stringer listed as of now so maybe they’ll throw Reggie Bush out there to take some snaps. A 9 point spread is embarrassing and the Giants will cover the over on their own. Giants -9 and the over at 43.5. Done and done!
